hobbitblue: (reading)
Ooh yum, just been revisiting Manybooks.net and browsed through their sf sections and their young readers section and have come away with pulp kids space adventures, and Andre Norton classics and also a better version of Heidi auf Deutsch than the word document I was planning to read on the palm.. well worth exploring as you can download the books in so many formats.

Groggy and sleepy today but we got out and about into the sunshine and blue skies which is groovy - got up no earlier than usual and did some extra chores for mum and still had time to head off out for the afternoon, so nice that the days are longer and there's more light in the evenings.

We'd considered popping over to Rivington again but that seemed a bit ambitious, so headed for Ainsdale Beach instead, and had a lovely wander along the sands watching people flying kites and even powerkiting - huge kites strong enough to pull a three-wheeled buggy along with someone sitting in it, looked like *such* fun, and would make for good pics too, though the light was very harsh and tricky to deal with, bit too shiny, and the wind was quite strong so these things were moving fast, the kites sailing gaily overhead and dragging them in all directions.

Forest got a decent shot though, go lookie!

It seems a really cool hobby to have but pretty expensive for the 4 metre kite and the buggy and the protective gear, heading up to a grand - I was very envious of them scooting around though, want one, even though I'm sure I'd tip the thing over or lose my grip on the kite within minutes, oops. Maybe we should get a wee stunt kite to play with if the wind's up though, and try to have it actually fly, rather than plummet nose-first into the sand. A couple of kids we passed had definitely got the hang of the whole "plummeting" aspect :>

I think we walked a little too far as I went very shaky and had a wee fit in the car before we set off back, so I was pretty fuzzy on the way back, zoning in and out and not really awake at all, as Forest zoomed along when the traffic would allow. I was hungry when we got back so just had to make some scotch pancakes, all hot and buttery and syrupy again, definitely felt better after those ::grin::

Just ambling around online now, having finished another SF ebook from Baen.com earlier, so cool having such a wide range of readable things all of a sudden. Bit too tired to know what to do with myself right now to be honest, would love to read some French but might put that off till tomorrow... *yawn*

Having got myself a score of so of nifty free books for the Palm I decided to download the free Mobipocket Desktop Reader so I can access the same files from my pc. Tis very nifty, you can customise the layout, colours, font style and a whole host of things, and best of all you can import other file formats to be converted into reader files. Like, say, .pdfs. *Much* more comfortable to read and much faster via the mobipocket software, I grabbed the Orberg latin extras file that [livejournal.com profile] polyphonia linked to a couple of months ago so have nice simple Latin to read on the go now, yay! :)

Doesn't work with registered .pdf files though, so I'm still stuck reading my bought French ebook in slow-to-process acrobat format, ah well...

Hobbits up far too early today after yesterday's exploits, need to dive in the shower before the healers come now. Still, have groovy software and have breakfasted and sorted out a whole bag of bottles and cans and cardboard packets for the recycling - then come back into the study to see another collection of tins that need rinsing and sorting too, argh! Forest can do those, methinks.
